Is Orange Chicken Keto-Friendly?

Basically, orange chicken is not a keto-friendly dish. It is made up of high sodium soy sauce which contains sugar and cornstarch which is basically used to thicken the sauce. So to make it keto-friendly we are going to replace it with keto-approved ingredients.

Soy sauce: Instead of soy sauce we can use liquid Aminos or tamari sauce which is gluten-free and keto-friendly.

Sugar: Sukrin gold or Lakanto sugar makes a perfect replacement for the sugar.

Thickening the sauce: To thicken the sauce use Xantham gum or guar gum in place of cornstarch.

This recipe for Instant Pot Keto BBQ Ribs is a perfect way to use your slow cooker or pressure cooker to get tender and juicy ribs that are smothered in a tangy and sweet barbecue sauce. The best part about this recipe is that it can be made in less than 30 minutes!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs after patting them dry.
  2. Rub the ribs with a little liquid smoke to help the seasoning stick, then rub with the seasoning mix. Before cooking the ribs, let them sit for 15 to 30 minutes.
  3. Fill the pot insert with apple juice and place a steam rack inside. Insert the ribs into the Instant Pot after coiling them. Allow some room between the coils to allow the steam to circulate the meat.
  4. Seal the top and cook for 25 minutes on manual/high pressure, then let the pressure naturally release for 15-20 minutes before quick-releasing any leftover pressure.
  5. Place the ribs on a baking pan to cool.
  6. Brush with barbecue sauce and broil for 5-10 minutes. Flip it over and do the same thing on the other side.
  7. Serve

Notes

  1. I cooked with apple juice, but you can use any liquid of your choice. Pickle juice, beer, broth, or just plain water are all some of Pickle juice, beer, broth, or just plain water are all of alternatives.
  2. You may need to cut the spareribs into sections to fit them into your pot.
  3. I had some leftover homemade BBQ rub from another recipe, but you can certainly use store-bought rub. I adore McCormick's flavor, which comes in such a wide range of flavors.
  4. If you prefer your ribs to have a bit more chew, cook them for only 20 minutes. If you want them to fall apart further, increase it to 30 minutes.
